Hannah Cross

Hannah first went to Brazil in 2006 as part of a St John’s sponsored student led short term mission visit. She went to work with Ian & Simea Meldrum at the Living Waters Church in Olinda and in its associated ministry at My Father’s House, a safe haven for boys rescued from a life of crime and violence on the rubbish dumps around the city. This is the impact it had on her.

“ It wasn’t until I caught the smell of Recife’s rubbish dump, walked through the mud and sewage of a Brazilian favela (shanty town) and befriended a mute 5 year old on the streets, that I truly became outraged at the injustice done to Brazil’s street children.

Hannah has worked with street boys and vulnerable children in Brazil three times in recent years. Supported by Latin Link, a Christian Mission organisation, Hannah has now returned to Recife to work in a project providing hope and transformation for some of Brazil’s most vulnerable children.
Hannah took part in Latin Link’s missionary training Strider programme and received help with language learning and on the job supervision and advice. She worked in Latin Link’s TEO Project in the Tejipio area of Recife. There is a well established ministry to boys but Hannah was able to develop the girl’s ministry including running craft workshops where the girls can make jewellery, bags and craft products for sale. Hannah had many opportunities for outreach ministry to the girls as well.

Hannah returned to UK just before Christmas 2011 at the end of her two year training programme with Latin Link. She is exploring what God wants her to do next and if this includes doing some further theological training. Hannah hopes to base herself in Egham, to find a place to live and to be involved in gainful employment! More information will be posted on this page in due course.
