“Without the Church, we would not have Magna Carta today”

As the world’s eyes turn to the banks of the Thames at Runnymede, Bishop Andrew has been asking the question of what part the Church had to play in the sealing of that first historic document on that site – within the bounds of the modern Diocese of Guildford – in 1215.  800 years on, in conversation with historian Professor Nigel Saul of Royal Holloway, University of London, Bishop Andrew discovers the role of the scholarly Archbishop, Stephen Langton, and how the church provided the only reliable network for sending the message of Magna Carta far and wide.
